The Phoenix

A Guide for Grief Survival

The Phoenix

The Phoenix is a very beautiful and colorful mythical bird. Many cultures have a tale of such a bird and though many of these tales vary, they all hold similarities.  This Beautiful bird lives many long years and at the end of its life it spontaneously self-combusts into a large flame and burns its self into a pile of ashes.  From these ashes a more beautiful bird arises and its life cycle repeats itself.

Grief is difficult, it is hard and seems everlasting. Grief can be like the Phoenix in this way; it is something that we have to burn through, and the heat of dealing with it seems unbearable, it consumes us, it is undoubtedly a tough journey. However there can be many opportunities on this journey, learning grief survival skills, and some stress management skills will help transform you into a more beautiful person than when you first entered grief.

Chris Breyer is a Grief and Stress Management Specialist and has done Grief work for close to 30 years and through all the learning and dealing with death, dying and those in grief, and pulling from many resources he developed this grief survival guide. The Phoenix Method is a unique way to work with our grief.  Let’s do this journey together so we can learn to implement these skills for Grief Survival.

The Journey: One is truly never over grief. When we say that our grief needs to be worked through, it gives the impression that we will get over it, we will stop missing our loved one and thinking about them will not bring on the pain of grief.

One does not work through their grief, they work with it, they learn to deal with it, or to survive it. How we survive it is what matters. When someone dies the journey begins. Many have done this journey and are still traveling it today. For the many that started their journey sometime ago it has become an enjoyable daily journey as they reflect on and honor their love for the one that is gone.
